Directed by John Dove, Anne Boleyn played at Shakespeare’s Globe for 22 performances between 8 July and 21 August 2011, following its sell-out run in 2010.
Anne Boleyn tells the story of King James’ feat in uniting England’s religious factions with a common Bible. Witty and flirtatious, Anne conspires with the exiled William Tyndale, to make England Protestant forever. Jumping forward 70 years, we see the newly crowned James I discover Anne’s copy of the controversial Tyndale Bible, which goes on to become one of the key reference texts for his common ‘authorised’ Bible.
