Shakespeare's Globe

The Globe Theatre is a faithful reconstruction of the open-air playhouse, first built in 1599, where Shakespeare worked and for which he wrote many of his greatest plays. In 2012 the Globe’s world famous theatre season will open at the end of the Globe to Globe festival on the 10 June and will run until October 2012. Each year over 350,000 members of the audience experience the 'wooden O' sitting in a gallery or standing as a groundling in the yard, just as they would have done 400 years ago.
